Claudette Jerez

Horror is my life. I studied film and met my best friend in a horror film class. And I am working towards a Phd on the horror genre in film.

What draws you to the darkness?

The relationship between good and evil. Working for Vatican television and having worked with exorcists for many years, I am fascinated by the supernatural and the spiritual war between demons and angels, between good people and evil ones, and this also just leads to fascination with monsters and the macabre.

Tell us why you would make it to the end of a horror movie.

I think I could make it to the end of a horror film because I wouldn't put myself in that situation. I would turn on the lights or go straight to the kitchen to grab a knife. Wandering around a house where people have died or a putting myself in sketchy situations isn't something I do. I'm actually too cautious... I would carry around all the blessed items and exorcism water I have. That or I would be the first to die.

What would you do with the unlucky $13,000?

I would use it for school to continue pursuing my PhD in film. I would love to have the resources to continue contributing to the study of film and the horror genre, especially in an academic setting. Funding research, especially for the arts is near impossible.
