desiree simone

Let's be honest. You need more black women in horror. And as someone who also hosts a horror podcast, I'm your girl!

What draws you to the darkness?

My grandfather got me into horror at a young age when I saw “The Exorcist” when I was 10. We didn’t live far from where the house based on the original novel was. And he took me to visit the steps. He then showed me all of his favorite classical Universal monsters and Hammer Films, courtesy of Turner Movie Classics. They were some of the best memories ever.

Tell us why you would make it to the end of a horror movie.

I get that black people are killed from the jump, but I’m a black girl who knows the rule of horror movies. I’m also a natural born leader and in the corporate world, have often had to sit entitled white men down so that they can see the “correct” way to proceed with a project. That, and I’m the only daughter of an Army SGM who really wanted a boy.

What would you do with the unlucky $13,000?

The lame answer is to pay for my wedding with my fiancé and co- host of my horror podcast “There’s Something About Horror”. The real answer: I suffer from Lupus and my medication is expensive. Between doctor visits and my infusions, the cost a fortune. My condition is progressing to the point that soon, I won’t be able to work. So my coaching business and my podcast, allow me to do what I love and make money. This money would go to furthering both and paying for my past hospital bills.
